  • 1.  Updating hardware compatibility

    I have a couple of virtual machines which were created a few years ago and in Virtual Machine Details hardware compatibility is shown as Workstation 12.x virtual machine.  I believe it is for this reason that I am not able to add TPM module in hardware settings - a vm compatible with 17.x does offer the TPM module.

    Is there some way to update compatibility to the latest version?

    Highlight the virtual machine guest you wish to change within your VMware Workstation v17

    Right click on the virtual machine guest > select Manage > select 'Change Hardware compatibility' from the menu, the rest is straightforward.

    Note: make sure that you have a backup copy of the virtual machine guest, should you need to revert back to it.
