    Hello,

(I posted the same contents a short while ago but the thread never showed up in the overview).

Earlier I launched vmplayer to open a vm.

It prompted with an update message to v 17.6.1.

The update continued until a message was posted "Update completed successfully" (Can't remember the correct wording).

However, the terminal window stayed open and I had to close forcefully.

Since then vmplayer is not launching anymore.

I'll attach the log file "/tmp/vmplayer-xxx/vmware-vmplayer-419749.log" that has been created.

What can I do to fix the problem?

    Any help is much appreciated.

    TIA

    As for "any help":

If not obvious, remove the software and install the new version.

Instructions how to Download are on many recent threads (since it is far from intuitive Web browsing).

    Thanks for replying.

I guess I would like to wait what Broadcom is coming up with (reply #1).

As it relates to your suggestion, do you care to explain what you mean with 'remove'? Are you suggesting to 'uninstall' or to 'delete'?

    Thanks

    dbyy,
Yes, the correct terminology is "uninstall". Personally, I always do a clean install - for any non-tiny-software product - and do not rely on upgrade/update to work. I know upgrade is faster, but that can have its specific problems that a clean install does not have. Now it seems that those specific problems are happening with VMware.

I trust that you can google for uninstall switch/option on your Linux (perhaps -u).

    Thanks RaSystemlord Sir.

In the meantime I figured it out and 'un-installed' vmware-player.

I checked the vmware directories and find the right un-install options. (I can't remember the exact steps anymore. It was 2 days ago)

However, It really didn't help me. After un-install and new install, vmware-player is still not launching and creating a long log file.

I assume there were still some fragments behind after uninstall that's preventing a new clean install. That sucks.

And on top of that, when trying to download vmware workstation pro for personal use, for hours now it's telling me "account verification in progress. Please check later again". That sucks too.
