  • 1.  Update Standalone VCSA

    Hello All,

So, instead of installing VCSA on an ESXI server, I have set up a standalone VCSA server as a VM within Workstation using the .ovf tool. It works perfectly fine, and there are no problems with the functionality.

I can't, for the life of me, get any of the methods documented by VMware to update the VCSA appliance from version 7 to 8. You could say it won't upgrade because it's installed outside of the recommended fashion, but there has to be a way.

I simply mounted an .iso of VCSA 8 on the VM and tried to update from the appliance using CD-ROM, but that didn't work. I have tried to run the .iso from another PC and do the upgrade, and that fails when I try to connect to the VCSA IP, "appliance not found".

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Whenever I had problems with upgrades, it usually boils down to DNS.  Make sure you can ping the VCSA by IP and FQDN from the PC you are doing the upgrade from.  I also had an issue once with the hostname of the VCSA being uppercase vs lowercase.  Make sure everything matches as you progress through the upgrade GUI.  If the hostname is lowercase, make sure you enter it lowercase in the GUI.
