  • 1.  Unable to unmount a datastore

    Folks

I am not able to unmount a datastore. The sanity check of VM presence is failing. I verified there is no VM running in the DS. Initially there were couple of  orphaned .vmdk files which I deleted. But it still doesnt allow me to unmount the DS.

Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

    Regards

    Rahul

    Hello,

Delete the filesystem (VMFS), and then unmount the device. Since there are no VMs or ISOs, you will not lose any data.

    Regards,

    Thor.

    Thanks Gentlemen,

The VMs that used be in that datastore have any snapshots.

Thor-  By VMFS file system delete, do you mean Select Datastore->Delete

I tried that and it threw an error "datastore is in use"

Even if files are present in Data-store, you can delete the data-store (VMFS File-system) on the LUN Device. I have attached step by step screenshots where i performed exactly the same activity on our environment. Here i had few unwanted files on the data-store which i wanted to decommission. Let me know if you can follow this without issues in your environment. - Thor.

    Hi Thor,

When I try to delete the datastore , I get this error

"The resource "datastore_vmfs" is in use
