We're trying to get an older version of VMWare Fusion (8.x) for compatibility and I've tried downloading (after registration) but even weeks later it says to wait for request review and I've gotten no response.

So what am I supposed to do or how do I get this older version? We've already bought license keys which work from version 3.x up to 10 but we can't just install the latest version due to hardware incompatibilities on some of our computers.

Does this link work for you?

    Download VMware Fusion 8

(Got to it by googling 'download vmware Fusion 8', top link)

Admittedly, we should do a better job making it easier to get older versions, even if they're out of support.

Broadcom has for all practical purposes shut down the download of older, unsupported versions of any of their desktop virtualization products (Fusion and Workstation).  In-product updaters for those old versions won't work either because of the changes in the software download infrastructure that Broadcom has made over the last year or so.

There is a back-door workaround to download the payload that the in-product updater would use. For Fusion 8.5.10, see the following URLs:

    https://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds/vmw-desktop/fusion/8.5.1/4543325/core/com.vmware.fusion.zip.tar
    https://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds/vmw-desktop/fusion/8.5.1/4543325/packages/com.vmware.fusion.tools.darwin.zip.tar
    https://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds/vmw-desktop/fusion/8.5.1/4543325/packages/com.vmware.fusion.tools.freebsd.zip.tar
    https://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds/vmw-desktop/fusion/8.5.1/4543325/packages/com.vmware.fusion.tools.linux.zip.tar
    https://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds/vmw-desktop/fusion/8.5.1/4543325/packages/com.vmware.fusion.tools.netware.zip.tar
    https://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds/vmw-desktop/fusion/8.5.1/4543325/packages/com.vmware.fusion.tools.solaris.zip.tar
    https://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds/vmw-desktop/fusion/8.5.1/4543325/packages/com.vmware.fusion.tools.windows.zip.tar
    https://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds/vmw-desktop/fusion/8.5.1/4543325/packages/com.vmware.fusion.tools.winPre2k.zip.tar

To unpack the Fusion application, first expand the com.vmware.fusion.zip.tar file. That'll create a folder com.vmware.fusion.zip.

Open that folder, and unzip the com.vmware.fusion.zip file. That'll create a folder called com.vmware.fusion.

Within that folder, there's a Payload folder. In that folder you'll find the VMware Fusion.app. Move that to /Applications, and open it. You'll be asked to complete a setup as if it were being run from the installer package. Note that you will need a valid Fusion 8 license.

The other downloads contain the VMware Tools ISO files that were present in the release.

I've learned that it's a good habit to download the installers of any software that you purchase and not depend on it being available from the vendor forever. You can never be sure when the vendor will stop offering it for download.

    Technogeezer,

First of all, thank you so much for replying so quickly. I'm in desperate need of getting this fixed. Before I followed the instructions below, I deleted everything off my computer in regards to VMware.

I then followed your instructions and I'm now getting this error.

If you are able to remote log in, I am willing to pay for help to get this clear up ASAP.
Thanks for your help and time.
