  • 1.  Unable to 'connect' to VDP after successful appliance deployment

    Posted Jul 26, 2016 12:55 PM

Hi - I hope someone will be able to point me in the right direction to resolve this.

I am trying to deploy the standard 2GB VDP 5.8.4 into a 5.5 environment.

The .ova deploys without issue and powers on.

I log into the suggested web page and am able to confirm the network details and run through the rest of the set up wizard, linking to my chosen VC and adding storage. The wizard completes works for a few mins to add the storage and then reboots the appliance and then the appliance comes up and steps through the configuration until it returns to the standard blue logon screen. Subsequent reboots are just reboots.

I believe the next step is to go into the VDP Node in the webclient, select the appliance from the drop down and click 'Connect' - when I do this the interface 'grey's out and the clock timer symbol appears... and that's it... no failure message, nothing until the client times out or I manually refresh.

All the DNS entries are in place and resolve in both directions, the account I used to join the appliance to VC has full permissions.

I have trawled the KBs looing for something similar but the articles I have found do not appear to apply to these symptoms - I will raise a case if necessary but I'm hoping someone has seen this before and can help me out.

I've seen this two times before, there was a mis-match between the VDP appliance, vCenter server and the ESXi host that the VDP appliance was hosted on.

After setting the same NTP source on all, restarting all the above and checking the time on everything again, it was all in sync and I was able to connect to VDP.

I think the VDP appliance gets it;s time from the host it's on via VMware tools so set the correct NTP server on the host and VC then reboot everything and check again.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the reply - I have the VC and VDP both running on the same host for the time being. The guests time sync to the host through vmtools and the host timesyncs to our PDCe and they are all reporting the same time within a second or so.

I have rebooted host and VDP but can't do the VC as it is quite widely used - but so far it doesn't look as if time is the problem.

Just to confirm everything has been checked for time and rebooted and no change to the symptoms and still noting that I can see in any log files - just a blind refusal to cooperate.

    I'll get a ticket raised.

Feel free to attach the VDP and vCenter Server logs while VMware review the issue.

    Hey there,

    Was this fixed?

I had come across a similar one due to conflicting plugins.

If this indeed solved, do share the solution.

If not, try the connect operation one more time and then attach the recet virgo logs (Web Client logs) here.
Along with it, if you have any additional vendor plugins, list them out.
