Don't know exactly but there are alternatives:
1.
If the hardware changes, you need to use "I copied" rather than "I moved". As you say, external SSD should not make any difference. Thus, there might be a bug in some version of Workstation.
2.
Generally speaking, do NOT connect USB devices directly to a Guest, if you do not use them. If you think you need them connected to a Guest, consider again is it really true.
Now, in your case, the SSD might REALLY be connected to your suspended Guest and thus the error message is kind of right.
3.
Do not pause or suspend or put to sleep (whatever they are called wherever). There is no real reason to do that, just asking for trouble. Boot times with a decent system are so short that suspend/pause/sleep does not make any sense, generally speaking. These concepts come from HDD times and from physical computers which were REALLY slow to boot up, because of the weaknesses of the OS (namely XP) AND with loads of software installed on the same computer. Nowadays, nobody should use HDD for VMware, a single VM computer does not usually have all the software in the world AND even Windows 11 is not so bad as XP was with lots of software installed (although it seems to slow down).

The same thing happened to me. Amazing!
The reason was that when I paused the virtual machine, I had connected an external SSD to my physical PC. Even though I wasn't using the external SSD, it seemed like something in the virtual machine was checking the external SSD.
How did I fix it?
I simply closed VMware Workstation and connected the external SSD before opening the virtual machine, and the problem went away. Solved!

Subject: The features supported by the processors in this machine are different from the features supported .
I have VMware 16 Player , installed on a workstation computer. I suspended the Guest OS ,
upon attempting to resume the Guest OS on the SAME Host computer,
I now receive the error "The features supported by the processors in this machine
are different from the features supported by the processors in the machine on which the virtual machine state was saved."
Which is impossible as nothing has changed in the VM or the Machine;
I have not moved, copied or otherwise performed any action - I suspended and then the next day came to resume.
I do not wish to discard the suspended state.
What do I need to do to resolve this error message?
