    Hi Everyone

Hope this is the right section to post in - looks ok to me.

I am trying to setup a HP Data Protector 6.20 Cell Mgr on a VM. The VM sits on an ESXi 5.0 farm. Running 2008 R2.

I have got the SAN guys to zone the 2 tape drives to the physical hosting severs for the VM farm so I can then map the drives into the VM running the cell mgr. I am told that this tape library (HP StorageWorks MSL4048 2 Drive LTO4 FC 4gb library) does not have a medium exhanger/robotics component to zone - aparently this comes down with Tape Drive 1 and this allows control of the tape library.

I can see the tape drives OK, my issue is I cannot see any of the Robotics or Medium Exchanger for the library. I am told that the robots should come down the same path as the first tape drive - but I can't see it.

Has anybody experienced this issue or tried doing this with a VM based HP Data Protector Cell mgr and a HP StorageWorks MSL4048 2 Drive LTO4 FC 4gb library?

    Many Thanks

    Ryan

I haven’t used this particular model. In most cases, for configurations like the robotic arm is at lun 1 of the same channel and target of the first tape drive. If your first tape drive is at c0t0l0, your robotic arm is likely to be at c0t0l1. Some guest OSs does not look beyond 0 unless explicitly configured.

By the way, does Data Protector support tape libraries from within a VM? It is worth checking with their support.
