Stretched cluster in VCF consolidated architecture?

  • 1.  Stretched cluster in VCF consolidated architecture?

    Posted Nov 20, 2024 03:54 PM

Dear Sirs, I am leaving a possible scenario in which I find myself.
The client has a number of 8 nodes to implement VCF, 4 located in site A and 4 located in site B, is it possible to create a stretched cluster using a consolidated structure mixing management workload and VI workload?

In the excel sheet when I load in the "Cloud Builder Appliance" should I include the 4 nodes of Site A, right? Or could I include 2 nodes of Site A and two nodes of Site B?

    Thanks.

It is supported, just start by deploying the 4 hosts in site A and then strech it using host in site B

It is indeed supported as mentioned above. Just make sure you size the cluster correctly to accommodate additional workloads.

Use the Cloud Builder with hosts in site A and perform the bring-up. Use the "Stretching vSAN Clusters in VMware Cloud Foundation" documentation to stretch the cluster with hosts from site B.

    Hope this helps.

Last question, if I separate the workloads (workload domain on one side and workload VI on the other) as recommended by the brand, would I have two different vCenters? With a one-to-one relationship between vCenter and workload.

If you go with consolidated design, then no. You will have once vCenter.

If you decide to go with standard VCF design (1 management domain and 1 VI workload domain) then you will end up with 2 vCenter Servers. One for management and one for VI workload domain. The VI workload domain vCenter will be automatically deployed by the SDDC manager btw.

Standard design will of course require more hosts to satisfy your stretched cluster requirement.

    Hi Guillermo

We have a somewhat similar situation, we have a consolidated vcf environment from which we want to stretch ourselves.

I was wondering what your experiences are now and whether you have made any progress with this
