  • 1.  Sound error: The default sound device cannot be opened.

    Host info

    • Laptop Model: Lenovo ThinkPad T14
    • CPU: Ryzen 5 PRO 6650U with Radeon Graphics
    • Speaker: Realtek(R) Audio
    • OS: Windows 11 24H2
    • Software: VMWare Workstation Pro 17.6.2

    Error

    The default sound device cannot be opened: Undefined external error. Sound will be disconnected.

    This message appears in all Linux distros when I open sound settings in Ubuntu 24.04 GNOME, or when I log in Manjaro KDE. I cannot hear any sound.

    Verify the stereo mixer is enabled on the Windows host.
