  • 1.  Single CPU socket vSAN? Approved?

    Hi,

I'm experienced with ESX, new to vSAN and investigating specs - any comments warmly welcomed with thanks:

None of the official "vSAN Ready" all flash specs (AF-4/6/8) allow for a single CPU socket board. In fact the only one that does is the hybrid HY-2

This makes things difficult if trying to go for an FTT=2 solution - budget is holding us down at 4 dual-CPU nodes, when 6+ Single-CPU nodes would be nicer (servers can be specc'd for 4 able to manage full workload instead of just 2).

Is it possible to come up with an all-flash single cpu system that is guaranteed to function well? Have I missed something just concentrating on the AF-4/6/8 and HY-2/4/6/8 specs?

    Cheers :smileyhappy:

    Tim,

If going the ReadyNode route, you could simply pull a single CPU of the dual CPU config if you'd like. The resulting ReadyNode sizing would be a bit off (CPU wise), but it is acceptable. You'd have to consult the server manufacturer specific to the proper way to drop to a single CPU config, especially when it comes to the memory configuration.  This is supported.
