I have a x3550 M4 with a ServerRaid M5110 adapter. On the VSAN HCL this adapter is supported for RAID0 on 5.5 and 6.0. I was able to set the adapter in pass-thru mode by removing the memory cache card. Does this mean that VMware does not support pass-thru mode for this adapter and i would have to put the card back and create a raid0 disk group? I would rather go with pass-thru mode.
while you are at it can you check what is the QueueDepth you are getting on this card configured for passthrough mode
you can refer here on how to cehck the queuedepth Disk Controller features and Queue Depth?
Thanks,
Queue Depth
With Cache - 975
Without Cache - 250
I will try to install the inbox driver to see if the queue goes up but doesn't look promising
never mind the inbox driver is already loaded. Probably need to put back the cache card in this case and use RAID0?
queue depth without cache is quite low for qualifying on VSAN.
send your finding query to vsan-hcl@vmware.com
Thanks
The ServeRAID M5200 series controllers (M5210, M5210e, M5225) have the same problem. Without cache, queue depth is horrible (234). This is quite disappointing. Tested JBOD and RAID 0 configurations.
