What tools are available for an EMC / VMware environment that allow me to see and troubleshoot peformance problems giving me visibility to both storage and virtualization layers in one pane of glass?  For example I want to see what is happening in VMware and what is happening on the array and correlate the information. It needs to work with Isilon and VMAX.

    Thanks

MonitorIT by Goliath Technologies will let you know what is happening on Physical Server/Host, Hypervisor, VM/OS, Application layers as well as all supporting infrastructure elements and plugs right into vCenter.

OK, would this integrate all the info that comes from EMC's own extensive storage monitoring solution, or would it substitute for it or require both to be used?

I use SolarWinds Virtualization Manager to troubleshoot performance related problems. I am a happy customer . Before I was using esxtop utility to troubleshoot problems. Now , i have custom dashboard in SolarWinds. Easy to troubleshoot what's going wrong in my environment. I have over 500 VMs in my env.

I can't say for sure with EMC, but we were able to integrate the solution with HP Openview by way of monitoring Syslog and using SNMP traps. So perhaps it coexists with EMC storage monitoring in the same way. I know the Goliath solution could act as a substitute as well by pulling datastore information from VMware or storage repository information.

I would say vCenter Operations is the best monitoring tool out there, it has adapters for EMC and other storage vendors:
