    Hi,

So we asked dell for a lower end NAS or SAN we could use as a shared storage for VMs and as a NTFS network file share.

They sold us a Powervault NX3100.

Turns out that to be able to use storage manager for Sans and create LUNs you need a VDS Hardware Provider.  I think this VDS hardware provider allows storage manager for sans to create and manage the logical units on the raid array (thats my understanding)

Anyway - it turns out that we didnt actually recieve a manual with our server (wtf?)  so i went and found an NX3100 manual online.

"VDS is not supported on this NAS" - says the manual.

Has anyone used a NX3100 for storage in their vmware environment?  How did you surmount this seemingly insurmountable problem?

The Dell sales person/server tech who sold us the server has told us they're currently contacting the storage engineering department in Texas (i'm in Aus), and they expect a response "in a couple of days".

Words cannot express how angry I am at the moment.

Anyone know if theres a VDS hardware provider that will work with Dell's PERC H700 raid controller and allow me to get Storage Manger for SANs working?

    Appreciating any assistance,

spoke to DELL and they've created a case that they're sending to the sales team.

It would appear the server we've been given isnt suitable to be used as vmware shared storage.

Everyone has been really helpful so far so props to DELL for that.

my boss hasnt fired me either.

    Things are looking up :smileyhappy:
