There is a fix that might work using the virtual network editor. Specify the ethernet card/wireless network that the NAT network connection is to use. This may seem silly if you have only one connection, but the automatic detection of the working network connection has been broken for some time.
This is, of course, assuming you can get the virtual network editor working. For later versions of the kernel it hangs on startup and is unusable. It's a sad testament to Broadcomm deciding to make VMWare Workstation into abandonware.

Subject: No Internet Access for Ubuntu VM's
Is there some trick to get Ubuntu VM's to use NAT and get to the internet. My Windows machines worked fine, but my Ubuntu machines show an IP and are using NAT, but they just won't get out to the internet.
