  • 1.  NetAPP SMVI and NetWare problems

    We are starting to test SMVI with our NetApp and ESX 4.1 infrastructure. We found that SMVI will not snap a Netware 6.5 vm properly if the 4.1 vmware tools are installed. It gives an error timing out. The vmware.log for the vm shows that Tools received some unrecognizable command.

    When I backrev the vmware tools to v3.5 on the netware guest, all works well.

    Anyone see that? I am actually kind of dreading having work with vmware and netapp on this because I am fearing a lot of finger pointing that will get me nowhere.

    If the old VMware tools work vs the newer ones it sounds like more of a tools issue with the old Novell server. Have you called VMware Support?

    Recently, we have upgraded our ESX server to 4.1U1. We are using IBM N-series (nearly identically to Netapp FAS systems) as central storage for VMs.

    We have running some Netware 6.5 servers with VMware Tools 4.1.

    Now, we want to backup these servers via SMVI. Are there any problems/issues known?
