    Hi,

Have you ever experienced this in your environment

Same LUN, 2 Partitions in 1 Datastore

    any idea how this happens?

I think this would happen if a 6TB disk is created and a VMFS partition added within it, creating the datastore. Then the disk is grown in size, and a 5TB extent added to the datastore as a second partition within the grown disk.

I guess that the storage underneath is  an "intelligent" one and can provision the size dynamically to the VSphere ESXi host and the original partition was the 6 TB one. As the collague in the former post mentionned the second partition is an VMFS extend to the first one.

There is a real good explanation in an VMware blog:

    https://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/2012/02/vmfs-extents-are-they-bad-or-simply-misunderstood.html

In this blog the architecture and the misunderstandings are well explained.
