  • 1.  Management Domain convert using VCF import tool 5.2.1.2 fails with internal errors for host minimum version

    Posted Jan 31, 2025 04:47 PM

    Hi All,

    We have been trying to convert a completely new vSphere setup using the VCF import tool (vcf-brownfield-import-5.2.1.2-24494579) converting vCenter 8.0.3 u3d build 24322831 and 4 identical hosts with ESX 8.0.3 U3b Build 24280767 as a new management domain for a new VCF instance.

    We have tried 2 different versions of the SDDC manager appliance (5.2.1.0-24307856 and 5.2.1.1-24397777). We are doing it this way as a brownfield convert as we do not have vSAN nor do we want it with our Pure SAN's being our storage solution using VMFS datastores.

    Broadcom documentation says our BOM alignment is accurate;

    VCF Import Tool

     5.2.1 and 5.2.1.2 require:

    vCenter Server 8.0 Update 3c or later
    ESXi 8.0 Update 3b or later
    We have also tried 2 versions of ESXi (ESXi 8.0 Update 3b and ESXi 8.0 Update 3c (latest available)) but get the same internal errors in the guardrail logs;
    "host","hmgmthe7-esx14.hmgmtson.local","Import","ERROR","INTERNAL_ERROR","Host minimum version","Check that the host version meets the minimum version requirement","Host version does not meet the required minimum version","Please ensure the host meets the required minimum version"
    "host","hmgmthe7-esx15.hmgmtson.local","Import","ERROR","INTERNAL_ERROR","Host minimum version","Check that the host version meets the minimum version requirement","Host version does not meet the required minimum version","Please ensure the host meets the required minimum version"
    "host","hmgmthe7-esx16.hmgmtson.local","Import","ERROR","INTERNAL_ERROR","Host minimum version","Check that the host version meets the minimum version requirement","Host version does not meet the required minimum version","Please ensure the host meets the required minimum version"
    "host","hmgmthe7-esx17.hmgmtson.local","Import","ERROR","INTERNAL_ERROR","Host minimum version","Check that the host version meets the minimum version requirement","Host version does not meet the required minimum version","Please ensure the host meets the required minimum version"
    Question is has anyone else overcome this error or have any ideas of what we can try next?
    Logs attached, please ignore the pNIC error for one of the hosts that is a physical connection issue for 1/4 uplinks we are addressing separately.

      As an FYI to anyone else with this issue, resolved by removing the '/' we had in our cluster name that was being converted. Don't put any special characters in the cluster name in vCenter only '-' permitted.

      Hi Courtney,

      Thanks for sharing and it's great you were able to solve the issue.

      I was investigating this internally but didn't find any clue. I'll share your info with appropriate team.

      Cheers!
