Yes, it's difficult to say. I hope somebody with such a fibre optic network can test this for you ... or somebody who knows what those VMware networks really are.
I mean, adapter speeds are sometimes, not even theoretically what they say. For instance, Wireless speeds are, even in theory, lower than what they are said to be. I don't know if that is the case with VMware virtual networks.
With slower speeds, you could test whether your speeds are halved in that case - use mobile phone hotspot to find out.
Otherwise, I don't know why network speeds are not halved in my case ... and I certainly don't know why this Forum suddenly starts to accept only one keystroke in a second.

Whether slow or fast Internet, the issue, in my case, is the host Internet speed being slashed down by half (at best), whereas it should roughly be the same as the host, or maybe just with a minor speed 'deduction'.
This is with v.17.6.0 and Windows 10 x64 (both host and vm), using NAT, Ethernet0 same 'network card' as yours. BTW I also tried VMware Workstation Player. Same results.
FWIW - I just created a new VM - Windows 10 x64 - and did the speedtest. Nothing installed, no tweaks, just straight after the install.
Down Ookla presected server: 599/409 (down/up) and a server that I know is a bit faster as far as download speeds is concerned: down 644 and up 378. Network: NAT.
I let it rest, there simply is no solution for this.

As I mentioned, my speeds are meaningless since I'm using Mobile data, where the speed is based pretty much on analogue events in the computer and network - all the way to the link tower and beyond. At this hour, seemingly nothing much was happening, since the following results:
Host Win 10 Pro: 99/14 Download/Upload, Ookla Speedtest. Mbit/s
VMware Win 11 Pro: 95/15.

Note that VM has 1 network connection only, same as yours. Ethernet0 (82574L Gigabit). I disabled vEthernet. Launched Workstation, did the speedtest test. Same speeds.
What are your speeds then? Host vs VM.
FWIW - as for vEthernet - below details - don't know what it is - have not installed it myself.

You still have many networks there, also vEthernet which is default to something. I have attached a picture of what is the standard-Microsoft-related-Windows11Pro -situation. Your computer seems like something cloned from a physical computer. "Not connected", is not the same as "Disabled" - it is still trying to connect. "Hyper-V Ethernet Adapter" - feels like usoft-virus to me on a VM - just kidding.
Unfortunately, I don't have currently access to such networking where I could test this in a meaningful way.

Sorry for the delay.
Thanks for the reply.
I increased the RAM from the 'recommended' 2GB to 4GB and changed the network to NAT.
(Tried other settings, like 'bridged' as well)
Regretfully it doesn't make a big difference. At best, the Internet speed is half of that of the host.
What I do note is the VMware Network Adapter (Host: Intel i211 vs VM: Intel 82574L)
Vainly tried to figure out the VM-Internet speeds - could not find any screenshots on that.
Have no idea whether this is normal or not.
What are your Internet speeds (host vs VM)?

I didn't mean that you should disable VMware's networks, if not obvious (vmnet1 and 8 for host-only and nat).

I would probably allocate more memory than 2 GB to the VM, use NAT, disable everything else than 1 Gbit/s networking on the host, reboot and do all the measurements again.

The Ookla speedtest shows that the up and download speed within Workstation Pro (17.6.1) is less half the speed of the host, 380Mbps down and 465Mbps up. I have a 1Gbps subscription. In Network Adapter settings NAT is selected. I believe this is by default. When checking Network adapter properties I see that VM is using a different settings host vs VM.
I used a tool that lists all details about network on the host. It shows 7 Network Interfaces (?) and the VM is connected to the 7th (WiFi as it looks).
I don't know, maybe I should select "Bridged"?
Thanks!
