    Hello,

    I have been trying to upgarde from VMware Workstation 17.5.2 Pro to VMware Workstation 17.6 Pro

    - without success!

    All my attempts have failed with the follows pop-up;

    An error occurred while applying security setting. Users is not a valid user or group. This could be a problem

    with the package, or a problem connecting to a domain controller or network. Check your network connection

    and click retry, or Cancel to end the install.

    Retry does not help. Also after Canceling the setup says:

    VMware Workstation Pro Setup was interrupted. Your system has not been modified. To install this

    program at a later time, please run the installation again. Click the Finnish button to exit the Setup Wizard.

    This is far from the truth - my installation was totally destroyed!

    I have downloaded VMware-workstation-full-17.6.0-24238078.exe again and compared it with UltraCompare

    to my first download - and the two files were identical.

    I have also tried to upgrade from version 17.0.1 – with the same bad result.

    Please help.

    Best regards,

    Einar

    Hello,

    the solution has been notified several times for this malfunction

    Before adding these users, the question is: is security compromised ?

    Use command prompt as administrator

    net localgroup /add "Users"

    net localgroup /add "Authenticated Users"
    ++

    VMware Workstation 17.6 has a bug if it is installed on non-english Windows. Broadcom is aware of it and is working on solving it. I recommend staying on 17.5.2 until it has been fixed.
