I have MacBook Pro M2 Max
and a virtual machine with Windows 11 64bit ARM

You haven't provided much context to the problem other than an error message and the logs. You don't say anything about what virtual machine is causing this error so I'm going to have to make some assumptions based on what I see in the problem report.

It looks like you're trying to power on virtual machine "/Users/MAC/Virtual Machines.localized/Windows 11 64-bit Arm.vmwarevm"

The virtual machine configuration file "/Users/MAC/Virtual Machines.localized/Windows 11 64-bit Arm.vmwarevm/Windows 11 64-bit Arm.vmx" is missing almost all of the entries that are supposed to be in there for a Windows 11 ARM VM. It's corrupt in my opinion.

The virtual disk descriptor file for the VM also contains information that's not what I'd expect. Either it's garbage or fully encrypted.

Questions for you based on what I'm seeing in the product report:

Did this VM ever work? If so, is there anything that happened between the time it worked and when it stopped working? (Software update? System Crash? Out of disk space? Anything else?).

When configuring this virtual machine, what type of encryption did you select? Did you select to encrypt only the files that are needed to support a TPM device (partial encryption) or to encrypt all of the files?

Do you have any backup of this VM?

I've done a bit more research on this based on the problem report you've provided.

You appear to have a fully encrypted VM from what I can tell. That explains the state of the .vmx file and the virtual disk descriptor file.

Can you make a copy of this VM and decrypt it?

What version, channel, and build of Windows are you running in the VM? Is this a GA/release channel build or an Insider Preview channel (Beta/Dev/Canary) build?

Does the VM power up and start - enabling you to sign into Windows? Or does it crash immediately upon power-on?

If you can sign into the VM, how long does it take (and is there something that you've done) for the VM to crash?

If you can sign into the VM, can you try to download VMware Tools 12.5.0 and upgrade them in the VM?

The encryption it has on all files, I can remove it to see if that solves the problem. But the truth is it has never worked, from the moment we installed it until, without doing anything, that error is returned without further ado and the virtual one closes.

I have install Windows 11 arm twice and the same error, i goint to remove the encryption to see. Let you know.

Before you do anything, try to create a new Windows 11 ARM VM, but this time when asked for the encryption, select "Only the files needed to support a TPM are encrypted" instead of "All the files".  That way we can see the .vmx file and useful information will be populated into the vmware.log file for the new VM.

I'd like to see if I can reproduce this behavior. Can you answer:

    • What version of Windows 11 ARM are you using (version -- e.g. 24H2 and -- build number - e.g. 26100.2605).
    • What language of Windows are you installing?
    • What's the name of the Windows 11 ARM installation ISO and where did you get it from?

This is very strange, because I am seeing that it is configured like this, and even so, it keeps giving me this error, what I am thinking is to remove the encryption

You will be unable to remove the encryption without deleting the TPM device from the VM configuration. I wouldn't try to do that just yet.

Since you say that this is happening on more than 1 VM, let's try to create a new VM but with partial encryption like I suggested before.

How long does the VM run before giving you the ".

Thanks for the Windows version and build. You're running the latest 24H2 (26100.2605) - the latest release channel version. What Windows language did you use for installation? From what I'm seeing Windows says it's using Spanish (International) so I'm going to give this a try with the Spanish language ISO download.

I do have one question from the screen shots you are posting. You have an E: drive attached to your VM. What is it? USB device? Network drive remap? Something else?

    Glad it's working for you.

I've installed the Spanish language Windows 11 Pro on a new VM. I created my new VM with full encryption like you. So far I'm not seeing any issues. If you do run into anything, let me know and I'll try to reproduce it (since I've now got a test platform that's looks like yours).
