  • 1.  Fusion for use with Calman Calibration Software?

Calman announced on back on Oct. 5, 2023:

"While there are Apple Silicon specific versions of VMWare Fusion and Parallels, they rely on an ARM-specific build of Windows that lacks comprehensive driver support, impacting several devices Calman interfaces with. At this time Calman must be used on Windows-based PC."

I would like to calibrate displays using Portrait Displays on my M1 Max MacBook Pro (2021), and would like to hear from anyone who can tell me whether this situation has changed since then. (I'd rather not spend thousands on software, a probe and a pattern generator if I can't use Fusion on my Mac!)

    Thank you!

They're not specific about what driver support they need to run on an ARM VM. They don't say if it's support they need from the video driver or some other device. The situation is complicated by the need for vendors to re-compile drivers to run on Windows when using an ARM architecture.

I read the whole Calman statement. They imply that the software could be used in a Parallels or VMware virtual machine on Intel Apple hardware. Given that the VMware SVGA II #d video driver is similar between ARM and Intel versions of VMware, there's a chance that there's some other driver involved that hasn't been ported to ARM by their vendor(s).

You will need to check with Calman again.  Or consider calibrating the monitor using something that's Mac compatible.
