  • 1.  FC and with ISCSI

I have a IBM Blade center with 4 blades running ESXI 5.1 enterprise.

The blades are connected to storage through a FC (Fiber Channel) switch.

I have added a new SAN to blade center but due to some unforseen port licencing issues with my Cisco MDS 9000 FC Switch , i can only connect one of the 2 FC connects to my blade right now.

The SAN also comes with ISCSI,  so my question is,  can i have a multipath set up with FC and ISCSI?  or is that a bad idea?

    Hi Friend,

Here is the thread that talks on your query :

fibre channel - Is it possible to multipath across FC and iSCSI? - Server Fault

You can use both protocols for separate LUNs, but mixing FC and iSCSI access with the same LUN is not supported by VMware. Not on a single host and not between hosts in a cluster. Each LUN should only be accessed by a single protocol in the whole vSphere environment.

In either case, I don't think it makes much sense to mix protocols unless you have a rare use case like in-Guest clustering with iSCSI, so stick with a single protocol as long as you can.
