  • 1.  Failing to Update

    "ERROR: There was a problem updating a software component. contact your system admin or support".

    Could someone tell me what to do?

    Here is what you do:

    1. If VMWare Workstation is running, exit all guests then close it.  Make sure the main app is no longer running.
    2. Click this link to download this file:  https://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds/vmw-desktop/ws/17.6.2/24409262/windows/core/VMware-workstation-17.6.2-24409262.exe.tar
    3. Double click the downloaded file then copy all content within to a new folder you create.
    4. Navigate to the new folder you created that you copied all files to
    5. Right click VMware-workstation-17.6.2-24409262.exe then choose Run As Administrator
    6. Execute the setup to perform the installation.  These updates have fixed the self-update defect, so you should no longer face this in the future.
