The guest is created under Workstation 16 and it is being opened in Workstation 17 correctly. I am facing problem while trying to power on using CLI and not GUI in Workstation 16. I don't think the problem is w.r.t encryption type.

I'm just guessing, but maybe this is related to the 'newer' encryption they added in 17 somewhere along the way.
Did you create the Guest under Workstation 16 or 17? If you created it under 17 I'm thinking it used the newer encryption.
If you created it under 16, did you 'upgrade' the encryption type (where it asks you on every start if you want to do so)?
At any rate, if your guest is using the new encryption type, maybe that's why 16 can't use it since it doesn't understand the new encryption.
Just a guess though.

Subject: Error while Powering ON an encrypted Virtual Machine
I am trying to power on encrypted virtual machines from Windows CMD using vmrun.exe but getting an error "The operation is not supported". While using GUI, I am able to correctly power on the VMs, this problem I am facing in VMWare Workstation 16 but same thing works fine VMWare Workstation 17.
vmrun -T ws start "C:\Users\XXXX\Documents\Virtual Machines\Kali_Linux\Kali_Linux.vmx" is the command i use in Windows CMD and it asks for password, even after correct password is entered it is throwing the error Error: The operation is not supported in VMWare Workstation 16. But the same thing works in VMWare Workstation 17. Please anyone suggest me a way to resolve this error on VMWare 16.
