  • 1.  Ensuring Access to vCenter Server Appliance Properties in vRealize Operations: Required User Privileges and Permissions

    Posted Aug 28, 2024 09:23 AM

I have created a vRealize Operations Manager collection user named "Test" in vCenter Server and assigned it Read-Only permissions. However, after integration, when I checked the properties of the vCenter Server in vROps, the "Appliance" properties are not visible.

To enable the "Test" user to view the Appliance properties along with Read-Only access, what specific privileges do I need to define for this user in vCenter Server?

I have already applied a clone of the Read-Only role with the "Minimum Collection User Permissions" as recommended for vRealize Operations Manager 6.x and later.

    Reference: Link

To ensure that a user can view the vCenter Server appliance properties in vROps, what permissions need to be set in vCenter?

VMware Aria Operations Version: 8.18.0 (24025145)
    vSphere Client version 8.0.0.10000

Below is a screenshot for reference-this is what I'm looking for.

    Hi

I think you'll find this is the information you're looking for.  It lists vCenter privileges for

    • Configuring a vCenter Adapter: Monitoring and Data Collection
    • Configuring a vCenter Adapter: Performing vCenter Server Actions

    https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Aria-Operations/8.18/Configuring-Operations/GUID-3BFFC92A-9902-4CF2-945E-EA453733B426.html

Hope this helps.  It took me a while to originally stumble over it. :)

    Regards...  Paul

    Thanks, Paul, for the info.

I created a new user using privileges from the provided link: Privileges for Configuring a vCenter Adapter (Monitoring and Data Collection). I removed the old integration from vROps, waited for 30 minutes, and added it again. However, I still can't see the 'Appliance properties.' Please find the attached screenshot for reference.

    Hi Sona,

Thanks for the info. Since I'm using multiple vCenter integrations with vROps and all are using the same policy, it's worth noting that the Default Policy only allows you to activate or disable metrics, not the entire Appliance property.

In my case, I'm unable to see the Appliance property itself. The Default Policy will only be helpful if you can already see the property. Please find the attached screenshot for reference.

    Hi,

For this to happen first, you have to have the desired metrics activated in the Default Policy used by Aria Ops. All Appliance group metrics are deactivated by default.

The Appliance metrics are accessible only through the vCenter's Administrator role. So you have to have Aria Ops integration to vCenter with an account that has the Administrator role in vCenter.

    Another update:

I created a new user with all the privileges from the link below to configure the vCenter Adapter instance in VMware Aria Operations. However, it still does not show or have sufficient privileges to monitor and collect data for the appliance properties.
