VNE = Virtual Network Editor.
It's a different program - look from your applications.
There has never been a reason to install Player, only. VNE kept on working after Evaluation time was up. There are many uses for that. Player was installed together with Pro.

Strange - the Player definitely at some point had button to "configure adapters". Here I could pick the relevant network card among the possible cards in the host PC.
What do you mean by "run the VNE"?
I opened the VM in Workstation Pro - but here I dont see the "configure adapters" button either.
Any (very specific) suggestions?

Workstation Player has never included the Virtual Network Editor, which is where you need to customize the different network settings. By default VMnet0 (bridged) is set to "automatically select the physical network adapter" and that has historically not worked consistently. Use Workstation Pro, run the VNE, unselect the checkbox to automatically select NIC, and then specify which physical NIC you want to bridge to VMNet0. Add any additional NICs to other unused VMNets. Then, in your VM settings, don't use Bridged - use Custom, and select the desired VMnet.

There used to be a button for selecting the physical network card on the host PC. Now it's gone...
How do I specify which network card to use with the "Bridged" option?
I'm running VMware Workstation 17 Player
