  • 1.  Cloud Builder validation error on new HW Dell R760

Team, i'm struggling to pass the VCF 5.2 Cloud Builder validation on a 4 host cluster of VXRail Dell PE R760 hosts.

Error - "All provided Physical NICs (vmnic2, vmnic3, vmnic4, vmnic5) do not map to same port group of vSphere Distributed Switch ndhd-m1-vds"

I have 3 network cards in the server (LOM, and 2 SFP fibre cards).  I don't use the LOM card as its 10Gb copper (this is vmnic 0 and 1).  The physical nics (fibre) connect to 2 TOR switches in the standard resilient method iaw the VXRail Design guide for VCFv5.2 (page 25).  During the VXRail deployment I've mapped the uplinks 1-4 to vmnics 2-5.

On the VCF 5.2 Deployment spreadsheet we choose 1 VDS and have added vmnics 2-5 in the cell.  When I log into vCenter all looks well in terms of vmnics and physical nics. The port groups e.g. Mgmt, vSan, vMotion etc all exist and the active/standby groupings look good.

    Any help would be appreciated.

This needs more troubleshooting and I would advise you to open a case with VMware GSS Support.

I did but figured it out sooner.

All sorted. Disabled the LOM network card, re-flashed Esxi on the host which picked up the PCIe cards and vmnic0 to 3 now mapped to PCie cards. Pity all the Dell VxRail designs utilise the LOM/NDC card. A small footnote saying if you want to utilise other cards you need to do some magic with CLI or disable the inferior NDC.
