  • 1.  Clone a machine with task scheduler, machine name wildcards.

    Hello,

I know how to set up a task to do actions, but i want to have a schedule to give the VMs a name with something like "VM_DATE", or "Clone Name - DD/MM/YYYY - HH:MM AM/PM" or "Name - WIldcard/counting numbers".

I just need help finding how to format the name to include identifier with unseen interaction or augments.

TL:DR - i want to make monthly backups of storage machine like repso, WSUS, DC where i can turn off the current one and turn on the old one instantly. some admins want me to create and keep snapshot for 1 or 2 months that grow to 5ish TB. i would rather clone them instead of making a month snapshot and trying to delete is before the new on make or risking a consolidation deleting older snapshots.

    Best

Thanks for the response, but I'm not asking how to schedule a task but if their is a formatting option for naming it based on the day the task schedule happened. like if the clone happens ever month on the 3th then the name will be "VM_NAME - 3/5" and the next will be "VM_NAME - 3/6" and so on.

if the only option is for a script then ok, but i did previously look at the links before i made this post as they were not what i actually wanted.
