Hello, I am using VM WARE fusion in full screen mode on MacBook Air M2.  When I use the trackpad to "swipe" back to another Mac desktop (in other words, I'm inside of the Virtual machine running Windows and I swipe to go to the Mac OS desktop), I occasionally get this error (image below):

cannot get attributes of file on virtual machine. canceling the file copy operation.

I assume maybe my trackpad swipe might be getting confused trying to do a drag and drop feature while also changing desktop screens?

more info: once I'm on my Mac desktop, the VMWare application icon in the MacOS dock is bouncing, indicating an alert. When I go back to the VM, that's where I see the pop up.

Just an annoyance, never seems to be anything harmful or damaging.  Any ideas what's going on? I wondered if changing my swipe shortcut would solve the problem.

What are the gesture settings for the trackpad?

Windows or Linux VM? I assume that open-vm-tools (Linux) or VMware Tools (Windows) are installed in the VM?

I use a 4-finger swipe gesture to switch from desktop to desktop (full screen to full screen). I'm running Windows 11 Pro for ARM on VM Fusion 13.5.0 from my MacBook Air M2

It almost sounds like the VM is recognizing something in the gesture to make it think it's trying to do a drag/drop operation between host and guest.

What macOS version are you running?

What version of VMware Tools are installed in your VM?

I don't normally recommend upgrading for the sake of upgrading, but Fusion 13.5.0 is a few versions behind and there are some security bugs in it that have been fixed in later versions.

If you're running macOS 13 Ventura or later, have you tried upgrading to the latest Fusion 13.6.2 and upgrading the VMware Tools in the VM?  I can see staying on 13.5.x if you're stuck on macOS 12 Monterey. But I've found that Fusion 13.6.2 is generally your best bet for macOS 13 and later, especially where Windows 11 ARM 24H2 is involved.
