Hi, I use VMware Workstation 17.6.2 on Windows 10 22H2 (10.0.19045.5131). I started using VMware recently on this laptop and got a BSOD today with hcmon.sys (VMware USB monitor, version 8.11.14.0) on the stack.
I'm using a Thunderbolt docking station Dell TB16. Its driver asmthub3.sys (ASMedia USB3 Hub Driver, 1.16.61.1, latest version from 5/21/2020) was also on the crashing stack (upstream of hcmon), so I'm not sure which driver was at fault, but I thought that VMware developers might still be interested.
The scenario was that I hibernated the laptop while the docking station was connected. During this time, power went down in my house, and later when it came back up, I disconnected the docking station before powering the laptop up (as otherwise the docking station has trouble coming fully back up in such scenarios). I powered the laptop up and connected the docking station. All seemed normal for a couple of seconds, then a BSOD appeared.
The immediate cause of the bugcheck seems to be infinite recursion in the hcmon driver (call site hcmon+0x3439). Attached is output of a WinDbg session with the full memory dump. I cannot share the memory dump, but I can share a minidump over DM or execute additional analysis locally on the memory dump.
