    Hello everyone,

I'm using VMWare Workstation Pro 17 on a Lenovo T480s Laptop running Windows 11 Pro and I'm having a problem using the VM network interfaces in "bridge" mode.

When I activate bridge mode on my VMs' interfaces and wish to obtain an IP configuration via DHCP, no request is successful. If I configure static addressing, the network interface works.

In my situation, I need to use my infrastructure's DHCP.

I've noticed that a VM's DHCP request doesn't reach my DHCP server, the MAC address isn't even visible on the network, the frame seems to remain in the virtual environment.

I've tested this on several different networks and the situation is the same.

Have you had similar situations with VMWare Workstation Pro and Windows 11?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

    Best regards,
    Clément H.

So what I ended up having to do was go to Edit Menu --> Virtual Network Editor --> and change the settings for automatic bridged connection. I specified one NIC to use. I had to rebuild my VM afterward, but this fixed it.

Are you looking for a possible fix somewhere or a way to go round the problem?

As for the latter, there is never a fixed reason to use DHCP. Sometimes, it just doesn't work. With your "infrastructure DHCP", I assume it is a device somewhere.

You can always use a fixed address outside the range of DHCP, which range there always exists. You can also have DHCP server to allocate an address to the computer - VMware in bridged mode in this case. Out of these, the first alternative always works, if done correct, of course.

Or was this about something else? Maybe I misunderstood.

As an opinion: If you are waiting for a fix for "some device" not giving an IP to virtual VMware software Bridged Network - keep on waiting.

A wild guess would be you have competing DHCP servers.   Pinpoint the DHCP server on your network.    Use that.   It may mean that you need to

    disable VMWare DHCP.

"kasper: A wild guess would be you have competing DHCP servers. Pinpoint the DHCP server on your network. Use that. It may mean that you need to disable VMWare DHCP."

That's a nice guess! We had this once when some genius put a Mobile Router (with a SIM) to the network and some users got address (and internet access) from that device. However, that connection works as it works while it is active and powered on, but of course the internet and internal networking (=basically non-existing) is different then.
