  • 1.  Acceptable Latency numbers of an FC SAN 4GB?

I am testing Veeam monitor and the software can report the disk read/write latency of my ESX Cluster datastores and I was wondering what are some acceptable numbers of datastore read/write latency?

Depending on my experience average latency less than 10 ms is normal with rare peaks to 100-200 ms.

    Sounds about right to me.

Even my most resource intensive datastores don't get over 6ms average but I can see occasional maximum doing 130ms usually when database backups happens on the Application level.

I came on the site looking for exactly this.

I have a FC SAN with 4GB Controllers and I'm averaging 10-15ms on my 8 disk RAID5 array for approx 15 VM's including vCenter, a lightly used SQL box and Exchange 2003 OS Drive.

I occasionally see the Read Latency spike to 150+ on a few vm's but can't seem to pinpoint where it's originating from.

I was worried to see that amount of read latency but if some say it's typical, then I feel better about that.
