    Hi All,

We put in a 2 node direct connect VSAN a while back.
Each of the 2 nodes has a single 12 core processor

We are now getting close to consuming 50% CPU/RAM. We need to increase both CPU and RAM. Increasing RAM is easy enough but increasing CPU might not be. I understand we can add a 3rd node but this requires purchasing storage switches and moving away from direct connect. I would appreciate the community opinion on these alternate options.

    Option 1
Is it possible to change the processor from a 12 core to a 24 core processor on each of the VSAN nodes?
This would consist of evacuating VMs from 1 node, shutting down the node, swapping the processor.
    Is this a supported option?

    Option 2
Adding a second CPU to each VSAN node.
This would consist of purchasing a CPU and 2x VSAN licenses.

    Thanks

, either option will work and is supported.

Option 1. may be more cost-effective as 2. would need additional ESXi+vSAN licensing (and sourcing exact same CPU).

Thank you for the reply . So I am correct in assuming that replacing the current CPU for a CPU with a higher core count is indeed supported?

    Thanks again

Apologies, you already confirmed this is supported, marked your answer correct.
