The error I get is:

An error occurred while applying security settings. Users is not a valid user or group. This could be a problem with the package, or a problem connecting to a domain controller on the network. Check your network and click Retry, or Cancel to end the install.

Retry does not work, keeps looping to Retry again.

VMware-workstation-full-17.5.2-23775571.exe is working perfectly. Keep using this version until another update comes along.

Error confirmed. The previous version 17.5.2 was successfully installed on Windows 11 v. 23H2. So there is not just a new feature that this version 17.6 might have introduced, but also a consequent issue, since making the installer not operational.

Hello!

I've the same error and just got the solution!

My Windows installation is in SPANISH, so the group "users" didn't exists (there was an "usuarios" instead).

So i've created the "Users" group in Windows and added myself.

Voilà!

I have the same problem with 17.6. Is this an internationalization issue? My locale is de-DE.

Enter command prompt with Full Administrator permissions and run

net localgroup /add "Users"
net localgroup /add "Authenticated Users"

Enter command prompt with full administrator permissions and execute:

net localgroup /add "Users"

net localgroup /add "Authenticated Users"

Then retry again - this will fix the issue on non-english OS versions.
