What crashed? The game? The operating system in VM? Workstation? Your host PC?
By "the patch" what exactly do you mean? A patch to the game? If that's the case, that's nothing to do with Workstation.

Try searching the web and see if there's a solution, because the general consensus is that something in Windows is preventing GameGuard from loading. And that's probably nothing to do with Workstation.
I'd say contact the game support, but be careful - they may consider running their game on a virtual machine as cheating and they could ban you.
