Is it black from the start, or do you get a chance to login and then it goes black?

Is it possible it upgraded and then rebooted. There are others reporting a black screen in Fusion in the latest version and a workaround has been posted.

Host OS and version?  Exact version of Workstation?

Post the vmware.log from the VM's folder.

Hi, I was wondering if you have found a solution to this issue? I am currently facing the same problem, and a detailed description of my issue can be found in my question "VMware Virtual Machine 17.5.0 Won't Start: Only Shows Black Screen After Disk Expansion," posted on April 1, 2024.

The difference is that I am installing Ubuntu 20.04, but my other virtual machine instances also installed through Ubuntu 20.04 are not having any issues. I believe what caused my problem was that I expanded the virtual disk size to 100GB. Did you perform a similar operation?
