vcenter standalone convertor - v2v esxi 6.5 to 8.0

Hi Guys,

Needs anybody who did a successful v2v migration using vcenter standalone convertor - vm migration from esxi 6.5 to new H/W with esxi  8.0 . please let us know your experience and version of standalone convertor that you have used for this jump

I haven't done this myself yet, but what may be worth trying, is to follow https://williamlam.com/2012/06/how-to-copy-vms-directly-between-esxi.html using the current OVFTool version from https://developer.vmware.com/web/tool/4.6.2/ovf-tool/

Hi,

For migrating from ESXi 6.5 to new hardware powered by ESXi 8.0, I recommend you check out the official VMware documentation and related discussions in the community.

Additionally, I found an article about moving virtual machines from one ESXi host to another that might be helpful to you. Hello ,

The option you have is use vcenter converter 6.3 (https://docs.vmware.com/en/vCenter-Converter-Standalone/6.3/rn/vmware-vcenter-converter-standalone-63-release-notes/index.html)  to migrate vms to esxi version 7 and then use converter 6.4 (https://docs.vmware.com/en/vCenter-Converter-Standalone/6.4/rn/vmware-vcenter-converter-standalone-64-release-notes/index.html)  to finally move to esxi 8.
