ESXi

  • 1.  a specified parameter was not correct - on all network changes - but esxcli works fine?

I'm new to ESX, long-time hyperv user.  I'm working with an evaluation version of ESX and I note when I attempt to change anything anywhere in the network subsystem using the locally-hosted management website, I get the above error.  It never specifies what parameter was not correct and I'm wondering how to find it.

The forums are very helpful with the equivalent esxcli commands that accomplish whatever changes I want to make, so the changes themselves dont appear to be the problem, rather some gui configuration?

Example changes I can't make on the gui but can make via esxcli:

Changing the dns search list of the management tcpip stack (to the same thing - no changes, just selecting save)

Adding an uplink to a standard switch

Changing the management interface IP address from DHCP to static.

The gui is pretty well laid out, I'd prefer to use it, but if there is some underlying issue, at least esxcli works.

Which ESXi version and build do you use, and can you confirm that the ESXi host still runs in the 60-days evaluation period?

Depending on the host system, the following KB article may help https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/88239
