ESXi

  • 1.  How do I check if my ESXi host has RAID configured (VMDRAID)

    Hello,

Our client has one ESXi server with 2 NVMe drives. Apparently, RAID 1 is configured with VMDRAID (VROC) but we can't find a proof that it is configured. They have two Supermicro servers, first one has Intel cpu with VROC and second one has AMD cpu with hardware RAID.

How do we check RAID 1 configuration for VROC without rebooting the server? I found some commands that show disks and controllers in ESXi and we can see 2 vmw_ahci drivers and 2 intel-nvme-vmd drivers. Is it possible to check VROC configuration inside esxi cli?

The most easiest way to check via Remote Console. Something like iLO/iDRAC.

From esxi level you need to have CIM Providers enabled. They will help to check it.

    And 3rd option via esxcli.

Last option via BIOS - but reboot will be required.

The thing is that we can't see virtual raid configuration in Supermicro IPMI but we can see VMRAID drives in esxcli. I am 99% sure VROC is configured but our client needs a 100% confirmation. Rebooting the server is not an option. Only thing we can try is CIM Providers you mentioned.

which RAID Ctrl model is it? LSI ?

check also if storcli vib is listed/installed. If you used Customised ESXi iso for the installation "storcli" should be there.
