Yesterday I installed Fusion and windows XP on my mac because I want to use Microsoft Frontpage. Everything is allright but when I have made some changes on my webpage in Frontpage I can not save the changes because several error messages occur. The error messages are:

    1. Server error: The server extensions could not get access to the file "Z:/eddiekofoed on my mac/Documents/webplaces/myweb/_vti_pvt/service.Ick". Control file permissions

    2. When I clik ok to this error message I get a dialog box where I can save the file. When I try to save to file I get this error message: "Can not save the file. The file already exist and is write protected. Save the file with another name

    or another place.

My folder for the webpage is located in my mac documents and Fusion have access to this folder.

The fusion I have installed is a try-out version and supports Leopard.

    Can anyone help please.

    Best regards

    Eddie

Did you make sure the VMware Shared Fiolder is set to Read/Write and not Read Only?

My suggestion would be to move your Frontpage Web Files to your Windows C: Drive and not on your Mac Drive or if you want to try keeping them on the Mac then try using Standard OS File Sharing not VMware Shared Folders as VMware Shared Folders is known to be problematic at times.

    Hello,

Thank you for your reply. The shared folder was read only, so that might be the problem.

I have done what you suggested, moving the frontpage web files to my windows C: drive and that seems to be working.

Thank you very much for your help.

I have a question that might sound silly. The C: drive in windows is that a part of the virtual machine? What I mean is if Fusion crashes then everything I have put in folders within windows will be gone as well right?

    Best regards

Regardless of physical or virtual any machine needs to have proper off-system data backups done at appropriate time intervals and it is the User responsibility to insure their data is being properly backed up and can be restored when needed.

Fusion as an application is separate and apart from the running Virtual Machine process and the Fusion UI can be terminated or crashed and the Virtual Machine process it still running. One can attempt to reconnect to that process by starting Fusion and acting like one is starting the target Virtual Machine. However just like any computer keep your data backed up and off-system so when needed it can be restored!
