    Hi,

    is it possible to exchange Ctrl and Cmd, so that Cmd is Ctrl in Windows and Ctrl is the Windows key?

    What version of Fusion are you using?

    Unless I'm getting confused about what you're asking for, I believe it's just been put in to v1.1.1

    not quite, unfortunately. 1.1.1 maps SOME Ctrl_ shortcuts. so Cmd-C worksnow. not Cmd-S doesnt (you need to press Ctrl+S). this is driving me insane after only 5 mintes of using it.

    before, i had used remapkey.exe to just siwtch the two keys, which worked perfectly for everything. with 1.1.1, this now gives me two Cmd/Windows keys, and no Ctrl; i had to undo the mapping and am now stuck with this half-baked remapping :(. not amused.

    to answer the original question: on 1.1 (and once somene finds the secret switch to disable the new 1.1.1 behavior), remapkey.exe, available with Windows Server 2003, will switch the keys for you beautifully (without remapkey, you need to manually batch the registry, google should find infos for ya).

    @Elitedev: You can turn of the new 1.1.1-mapping in /Users/Wolfgang/Library/Preferences/VMware Fusion/preferences with

    pref.mapMacShortcutKeys = "FALSE"

    Edit: I can't find the registry setting for swapping the keys

    http://communities.vmware.com/thread/123617? has the real infos for disabling the 1.1.1 remapping (i'm assuming you pasted the wrong option by accident :smileywink:

    remapkey.exe is actually pat of the resource kit, not 2003 Server itself. the reskit is availabke at http://www.microsoft.com/Downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9d467a69-57ff-4ae7-96ee-b18c4790cffd - it's worth checking if this ight install on XP too (i have a 2003 box, so i never did ;). howevee you get remapkey.exe, it will run fine on XP and Vista, of course.

    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout" is the registry key for this, but its values are far from "human readable/writable. More infos at http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/input/w2kscan-map.mspx.

    hth,

    Ah, thanks, that works well.

    There's also a single download to remap the keys:

    I know about the included feature, but that will map just one keys by replacing them.

    Cmd is normally mapped to the Windows Key, but with v1.1.1 in some cases it is mapped to the Ctrl key like CmdV will send CtrlV to Windows. So it is not possible anymore to use WinV (or WinC etc.). Also the new mapping only maps some common keys. So I thought it could be possible in general to Make Ctrl be Win and Cmd to be Ctrl.

    The actual v1.1.1 removes some necessary Win-shortcuts on my system.
