Open Word document with Mac Word

I copied MS Word documents from PC to XP in Fusion. Stored in the shared folder. However Fusion says it is a Wordpad document.

I want to open it with my Mac Word application. How to do that ?

Fusion says it is a Wordpad document.

Fusion does not say (and does not care). It's either Windows XP in Fusion, or Mac OS X which can say that.

OK, but anyhow when looking at the document properties it shows filetype Wordpad. It was created by Word in PC and has DOC suffix.

I have done the steps you say. In Mac I have Word as predefined, and in Fusion chosen "Default host application".

When dobleclick on the document nothing happens.

Same thing works fine for PDF and JPG files, which are opened in Mac Preview.

(I changed to Word as predefined in Mac AFTER having copied documents from PC to XP in Fusion. Does it matter?)

To be clear, did you mean when double-clicking it from Windows? And what happens when you double-click it from Mac OS X (does it open in Mac Word, or in Wordpad - if in Wordpad, change the association on Mac side)?

I don't think so, the crucial thing is to click the "Change all..." button when setting the preference for a document. You might try checking Mac Word association again for the document (and click the "Change all..." button again). Otherwise, I probably don't know what is going on.

Maybe I'm not clear enough.

Dobleclick on the doc from Mac Finder works fine, but ...

when working inside XP in Fusion and doubleclick there, then nothing happens. Doing same with PDF and JPG works.
