  • 1.  Keyspan 19HS series adapter working in Windows 11 ARM on Apple silicon Mac?

I'm trying to get a Keyspan 19HS USB-to-Serial Adapter working with Windows 11 ARM in VMware Fusion 13.5 on an M1 MacBook Air. I'm somewhat flailing because I can't seem to get Windows 11 to install the Keyspan drivers that I've downloaded and tried to add in Device Manager with Action > Add Drivers. All I get is:

    19h.inf: Successfully added oem5.inf and installed on 0 device(s)
    19hp.inf: Successfully added oem6.inf and installed on 0 device(s)

Windows itself seems incapable of finding drivers too, and the Keyspan Assistant app says no adapters are found.

Has anyone gotten something like this working, or serial access just a non-starter in VMware Fusion and Windows 11 ARM?

    Thanks!

Unless the drivers were specifically written for Windows ARM64, I don't think it will work. Device drivers are quite different from regular applications wherein a simple translate of x64 to Arm64 on the fly will work. Device drivers will generally will have to interact with the OS kernel.

Find a USB-to-serial hardware that has a driver specifically writen Windows 11 ARM64.

     - its nothing to do with Fusion and everything to do with Apple's switch to ARM CPUs and the need to run Windows 11 ARM on Apple Silicon.

I did some digging and found that you indeed hit the nail on the head with this one. Users over at the Parallels forum have found that Eaton/Tripp-Lite do not have Windows 11 ARM drivers for that adapter.

As an FYI -the same source indicates that USB-to-Serial adapters that have an FTDI chipset will work under Windows 11 ARM as FTDI does provide Windows ARM drivers.

Thanks to both of you! I was afraid that would be the case, but I really appreciate the info about the Keyspan adapter not working in Parallels either, since that would have been what I would have tried next (and it would have taken a lot of time to get to the point of learning it didn't work).

I'll see if I can find an FTDI-based USB-to-serial adapter.
