We are excited to announce that VeloCloud SD-WAN Release 6.4.0 is now Generally Available (GA) as of May 02, 2025!

In today’s increasingly distributed and hybrid enterprise environments, real-time, granular network monitoring has become mission-critical. At the same time, organizations face mounting challenges from AI-driven applications, which are often bandwidth-heavy, latency-sensitive, and encrypted — making it difficult to accurately identify, analyze, and prioritize. Meanwhile, organizations are also seeking greater customization to bring efficiency to network operations with unique business requirements such as branding.

Modern SASE and SD-WAN architectures must evolve and address advanced capabilities to detect and classify AI traffic, ingest network telemetry, and correlate flow data and application-layer metrics. This deep visibility enables organizations to detect anomalies, monitor performance degradation, and uncover usage patterns, ultimately providing the actionable intelligence needed to proactively optimize traffic flows, enforce policies, and maintain alignment with business-critical application SLAs.

Key Release Features and Capabilities

Release 6.4.0 is engineered to tackle the evolving demands of modern WAN environments with AI-driven intelligence, AI application recognition and innovative Link Insights analytics to ensure accurate traffic classification and real-time performance monitoring, even across encrypted flows. For enterprise and partner customers, this release brings enhanced customization capabilities including custom branding, custom applications, and custom alerts. At the core, adding Equal-Cost Multi-Path (ECMP) and Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) features enhances the SD-WAN fabric with robust path redundancy, dynamic load balancing, and aggregated bandwidth utilization to ensure high availability, optimized performance, and seamless failover across hybrid transport environments for large enterprises.

Let’s dive into the key features and enhancements of this release:

Deep Packet Inspection Package Upgrade Classifies 700+ New Applications, Including AI Apps

The rapid rise of AI-driven applications is fundamentally reshaping traditional enterprise traffic patterns. Unlike conventional workloads that follow predictable upstream and downstream flows, AI applications generate asymmetric and dynamic traffic that challenges long-established edge behavior. Adding to the complexity, much of this traffic is now encrypted, making it increasingly difficult for conventional traffic identification mechanisms to analyze, classify, and prioritize flows. Compounding the challenge is the fact that agentic AI workloads are highly sensitive to latency, jitter, and packet loss. Even minor degradations in network performance can result in delayed responses, failed model interactions, or degraded user experiences.

As part of the VeloRAIN (VeloCloud Robust Artificial Intelligence Networking) architecture, we're excited to deliver a Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) package upgrade. This release delivers a major update with the classification of 700+ new applications, including a growing set of AI-related applications that are reshaping modern enterprise traffic. Enabling accurate detection and classification of AI traffic empowers organizations to operate with greater precision and resilience in increasingly AI-driven environments.

Unlock Advanced Troubleshooting with Interface-Level Monitoring

The Interface-Level Monitoring feature on VeloCloud SD-WAN Edges brings a new level of visibility and control to network administrators. With easy access to both real-time and historical interface statistics, customers can efficiently troubleshoot issues, optimize network performance, and plan for future growth. This capability empowers IT teams to keep a close eye on the performance of network interfaces, which are the crucial point for data to flow in the networks to maintain a healthy, high-performing network.

Enhance Enterprise Network Performance with LACP on VeloCloud SD-WAN Edges

In large enterprise and campus environments, where network performance, redundancy, and scalability are paramount, Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) on VeloCloud SD-WAN Edges delivers a comprehensive solution to meet the growing demands of modern infrastructures.

By combining multiple links, LACP + Link Aggregation Groups (LAG) can significantly boost available bandwidth, improve resiliency, simplify network management, and support growing campus infrastructures. For example, aggregating four 10 Gigabit Ethernet links can provide up to 40 Gigabits per second of total bandwidth.

This feature empowers networks with built-in high availability and fault tolerance. In the event of a link failure, traffic is automatically redistributed across the remaining active links without disrupting application performance or connectivity. This seamless failover mechanism ensures continuous network uptime and eliminates the risks associated with single points of failure.

Beyond resilience, LACP also delivers dynamic load balancing. Instead of allowing a single link to become a performance bottleneck, LACP intelligently distributes traffic flows across all available links in the aggregation group. This approach maximizes resource utilization, improves throughput, and ensures that no single link is overwhelmed by peak traffic loads

With LACP, enterprises can build a more resilient, load-aware, and high-performance network fabric to support everything from core business traffic to latency-sensitive AI applications.

Note: Small and medium Edge models (5x0 or 6x0 Edge without Marvell switch, Edge 710, 710-5G, 720 and 740) support a maximum of two LAG ports, while large Edge models (Edge 3400, 3800, 3810, 4100, 5100) support up to a maximum of four LAG ports. Each LAG can have up to eight members of the same interface type and speed.

Boost Enterprise Networking with ECMP Support on Edge

ECMP support on VeloCloud SD-WAN Edges optimizes throughput, enhances resiliency, and distributes traffic efficiently. By enabling multiple equal-cost routes, ECMP helps load-balance traffic across multiple paths, improving network performance while reducing the risk of congestion and downtime.

With ECMP support on VeloCloud SD-WAN Edges, multiple underlay routes can be configured across different LAN/WAN interfaces, providing multiple paths for data to travel. Also, customers can use the ECMP feature across NSD/IPSec from multiple WAN interfaces to Symantec and other cloud security providers. This allows businesses to harness the full potential of their campus network infrastructure and get the most out of their existing connections. It supports routing through BGP, OSPF, or static routing and improves traffic distribution by load balancing across multiple equal-cost NSD BGP/NSD static routes.

To use this feature, Distributed Cost Calculation (DCC) has to be enabled.

Empower Your Network with Customization: Self-Service Orchestrator Branding, Custom Applications, and Custom Alerts

In fast-evolving business environments, network administrators and IT teams are constantly seeking ways to tailor their network management systems to meet their unique business needs. VeloCloud's latest self-service orchestrator branding, custom applications, and customizable alerts features empower enterprises and partners to take control of their SD-WAN environments with increased flexibility and personalization.

With the self-service branding feature, enterprise users can now brand the VeloCloud Orchestrator user interface (UI) by applying their company’s name, logo, fonts , homepage and colors. For large organizations or managed service providers (MSPs), this personalization creates a more cohesive experience for IT teams and helps reinforce a brand’s identity among customers. With this feature, enterprise super users have the ability to configure branding for their enterprise tenants.

Every organization has specific applications that are critical to their operations, and in many cases, these applications might not be included in a standard list of predefined options. With the custom applications feature, VeloCloud enables Enterprise and Partner customers to create custom applications within the SD-WAN deployment and use them in business policy and firewall rules creation. Once created, custom applications are automatically appended to the existing Operator App Map, providing a unified view that combines both predefined and user-defined application intelligence.

In complex enterprise networks, timely and relevant alerts are essential for quickly identifying issues and minimizing downtime. However, excessive or irrelevant alerts can overwhelm IT teams and actually increase Mean Time to Detect (MTTD) and Mean Time to Resolve (MTTR). VeloCloud’s customizable alerts feature allows users to select only specific events of interest from the broader list of enterprise events, ensuring that teams are only notified of what truly matters. Alert notifications are done via Webhooks, SNMP and email. This targeted alerting approach reduces noise, enhances operational focus, and accelerates response times, ultimately improving service reliability and efficiency.

Enhance Security and Performance with Symantec IPsec Dual WAN Link Support in SD-WAN

As organizations continue to embrace cloud adoption and remote work environments, securing network traffic and ensuring secure and seamless access to resources have become top priorities. On VeloCloud SD-WAN Edges, the Symantec IPsec Dual WAN Link Support feature is designed to enhance tunnel deployment on dual WAN links to improve IPsec throughput performance and reliability of SD-WAN environments through high availability, when creating an SSE integration with Symantec Enterprise Cloud.

This integration supports automation of IPsec tunnel creation and deletion on dual WAN links, eliminating the need for manual configuration and significantly simplifying the operational process.
