How to prepare for the design exams, let it be DCD or CID?

Does reading blueprint suffice or a real design experience reqd?

If an associate doesnt have a real time design exposure, then how to nail these sort of exams?

Also how to answer the design items presented in the exam?

I'd like to know inputs from the community which would be valuable?

Theoretically no you do not need any actual design experience but it does sure help - you could use the Blue Print and the supporting documentation.-

To successfully pass you will have to spend more time studying -

Design exams are really difficult and require a lot of experience, not only in virtualization, but also in storage and networking and IT project management.

Blueprint could help, but is not enough.

Workshop design course could help for DCD.

I agree, Design Workshop could help, but you need experience. I attended it at last PEX, it answer many question on the "Why" side of design, but you need experience to be able to pass the exam. The scope of the exam is larger than VMware software issue, if you don't know storage and networking you will find it hard.

Design task are larger in scope than VCP-style exam. While I attended the Design Workshop, I was able to see who work the technology and understand it and other knowing only side of the equation... (sales, storage, networking...).

I have read Forbes Guthries book "vSphere Design", the first edition and now reading the second edition, they are really helpful.

Also attend the vSphere Design Workshop, it is a great course.

    Also this book could help...

For CID exam I've not yet any experience. But I ear that is really difficult...

i totally agree with what the other guys have said and just wanted to add that I've done a page on my blog on the resources I used for the VCAP exams if you are interested here: http://thesaffageek.co.uk/vsphere-5-study-resources/vcap5-dca-dcd/

One bit of advice about the design workshop is because there is more material than time to get through it all make sure you do all the workshop tasks at home and download the completed designs for the scenarios from mylearn and learn and understand why VMware designed it like they did

    Hi,

Go to your transcript then down to courses and under the course it has a link for Next Steps

The completed designs are under there
