    All,

Trying to upgrade roughly 50 workstations with SEP (among other things) by the end of August and I need to know if there is a way to uninstall the Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition that is currently on these boxes before I install the SEP. I was thinking of using the Symantec removal tool, but can't find one that gets rid of the corporate edition. I need the answer to this super quick, I don't care if it's pretty, I need it to work, and get the job done fast. PLEASE anybody help me on this, time is essential.

    Thanks,
    JB

Once you deploy SEP on the client machines it will automatically remove your SAV ( if its version 9 or 10 --however in 9 you might face issues on few PCs )

Once you deploy SEP first it will remove SAV completely then it will start its installation.

Make sure before deploying SEP on these systems you disable the Un-install password requirement from SSC and disable all scheduled scans and also turn off tamper Protection from SSC and everything should go smoothly..

Yes If you are using version 9 and above then you can directly overinstall the SEP on SAV it will automatically uninstall the SAV.

Here are some documents I usually send to callers when I have them installing for the first time or from SAV to SEP:

Title: 'Installing and configuring Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 for the first time'
    Document ID: 2007082915561148
    > Web URL: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2007082915561148?Open&seg=ent

Title: 'How to Deploy Symantec Endpoint Protection to your client computers using the Migration and Deployment Wizard.'
    Document ID: 2007111409432848
    > Web URL: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2007111409432848?Open&seg=ent

Title: 'Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager reference guide for Symantec System Center users'
    Document ID: 2007021509381848
    > Web URL: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2007021509381848?Open&seg=ent

And as stated above, SAV 9 and 10 is a direct migrate to SEP.

As it is already mentioned in the above posts that when we  have SAV 9.0 and above SEP over installs itself.

Inspite of that if if you want to remove SAV before  uninstalling  SEP. There ae 4 ways in which you can do it.

    1. Removing it from Add remove from all the machine ( This will be very cumbersome )

    2.Removing from Cmd line  (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2007091209261948)

    3. Running the removal tool ( For that you have contact the Tech Support

    4. Runnning the removal script on all the machine at the same time but for that you need altris.

So in my opinion i Will recommned you to use the Migration and Deployment wizrad tp push SEP 11 over SAV 9.0

When you have issues on a had full of machine then you can go for the above removal technique

I read up before trying to deploy SEP 11.0.5. All of my research stated it would overlay, but when it didn't work, I noticed the age of the currently installed version. WIll Add/remove progams solve the issues? Does it matter that the old version is on an older server and the new version is on a new server? This is my first time trying to do this, so please bear with me:)

I got it installed on the test client sucessfully by removing the old program. I ran into another issue- In administering the scans, how would I set it up to allow scans to run while users are logged on, because there are several users in the organization that never log off? I attempted to run a forced, full scan on the test client and SEPM issues the command, but the scan did not progress until I logged the test client off.

The schedule Scan runs when the user is logged on.By Default the scan runs in background so you won't be able to see it.so you can edit the scan properties make it to show scan progress.
