  • 1.  Tried in to install SEP on SBS Server 2003, no success

    Posted Dec 09, 2009 09:42 AM
I pushed our SEP to a Windows SBS Server 2003 and did not have any luck.

But some weird things are happening now, anytime I right click on anything on that server, a SEP installation window comes up, I have to click Cancel to get it to go away.  It's almost like Windows Explorer sets off the installer?

So the installer keeps trying to run. Any ideas?

    Thank you!

If the above does not help
download the windows cleanup utility from
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
    install it
    remove the corrupted symante endpoint
    reboot
install symantec again should be fine.

It won't let me install the clean up utility because I can't stop the SMC service, so it sees another install is in progress.

I have tried ending the process smc.exe but it just restarts and when I try to end the service, everything is greyed out?

    Seen that before?

I'm sorry, I should have mentioned before that the system was currently running version 11 and I pushed 12 to it.

Again, my apologies for not specifiying that sooner.

    not a problem at all.
    got to start run
    type smc -stop
    go to services.msc
stop all the symantec related services.
    open task manager
    kill all the msiexec.exe
now install the cleanup utility and remove sep
    reboot and install sep again.

Call Support get a copy of Cleanwipe Utility.
Run Cleanwipe to remove SEP then install SEP 12

    Hi,

    You can try these steps.

    go to services.msc
select symantec management client, right click properties.
make the startup type as disabled.
    now open taskmanager,
    kill smc.exe

the symatnec service is disabled now.

use the cleanup utility to remove symantec,
    install it again
    should be fine.
