  • 1.  Package Server, imaging, and face palming

We're working on migrating from DS 6.9 to 7.1 and I've been handed the task after the first guy left.  I have gotten as far as uploading an image from a client PC, but after the upload finishes, the client sits there in the PE environment doing nothing.  I ensured the Job includes a reboot to production" task after the Create Image task.  Now, this wouldn't be a big deal except that the image never shows up in Settings\Deployment and Migration\Disk Images which is maybe being a bit presumptious as I have no images yet.  The files are on the server (..\deployment\task handler\image\blahjunkblah\).  It may be worth noting that I'm using rapideploy as multicast is necessary.

After much reading, Googling, weeping, and gnashing of teeth I'm questioning if this could be related to the lack of a Package Server.  So, here are my questions:

    1.  How do I know if my we've installed Package Server?

    2.  If it's not installed, how do I install it?

    3.  Why are my images not showing up in SMC?

    4.  Why do I hang after the upload finishes?

    Thank you in advance.

    Same result with Ghost images.

I've got it halfway figured out, just need more testing to finalize.

Since this isn't anywhere else, I'll outline what I did to install the Package Service.

    - in SMC, click Home -> Notification Management -> Portal

    - Under Site Servers on the left, click Manage Site Servers

    - Expand Site Mangement on left

    - Expand Site Servers

    - Expand your Server

    - Click on Services

    - On right, under Task Service, click Install/remove services

    - Check the Package Service box

    - Click Next, then click Okay

Once your Management Agent picks up the task, it will install.  Give it about 30 minutes and you should be rolling.
