  • 1.  Upgrading SEP clients to 12.1.4 MP1 with SCCM

    Posted Jun 01, 2014 04:04 AM

Hello Guys , I have upgraded my SEPM's to 12.1.4 MP1 , now I need to upgrade my clients running 12.1.3 to 12.1.4 MP1 . The total number of clients are 1700.

Iniitally the clients were deployed using SCCM . Now I want to ask you that should I upgrade them using SCCM or via SEPM auto upgrade feature ? Which is recommended in the current scenerio ?

Secondly If I go with the SCCM , then what are the steps I am required to follow to make the upgrade happen ? Should I simply give the 12.1.4 MP1 clients 32 bit and 64 bit packages to my SCCM team and they only need to simply push it ? What are best practices I should follow while doing this ?

Waiting for your suggestions and replies. Thanks

    Regards

To install using sccm use this

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO55425#v8527828

    cmd line switch here

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH177946

You can use the autoupgrade and add both 32 / 64 bit package , You can start by assigning them to few groups.

Note - I recommend you first you can try the Auto Upgrade feature for the client upgradation.

Create setup.exe, one for 32 one for 64 or MSI give it to your sccm admin they will do the rest.

SCCM is the way to go if you have all your distro points setup at each local site. This will minimise impact on bandwidth greatly.

Unless all 1700 clients are sitting in the same location as the SEPM you may hit bandwidth issues depending on the pipe into your locations. If you do use the SEPM to upgrade them, I would suggest setting the upgrade over the course of 7 days or so...again, you know your network so it's up to you  but bandwidth issues would be the concern.
